Notes

The names of the editors, their papers, and the location of the reunion are written on the back of the photo. The editors in the group were employed on newspapers in Grand Rapids from 1870–1880 except for Jonathan B. Mills and Charles A. French. E.A. Stowe was also the founder of the Michigan Tradesman in 1883 and of the Michigan Dairyman. One editor missing from this photograph who appears in others is Charles E. Belknap. It is unknown if the editors met every year but ten photos of the group covering the years 1906-1923 exist in Collection #54 at the Grand Rapids Public Library’s History and Special Collections Dept.

More about the early history of Grand Rapids newspapers can be found in Chapter XXX of The History of the City of Grand Rapids by Albert Baxter.
