Southlawn

This brick and cement block theater was built between 1929 and 1932 by the Grand Rapids Amusement Co. at the southeast corner of Division Avenue and Janet Street in the Southlawn Park area. As a theater, it had 476 seats, and included a parking lot. The building is 40' x 120' on a lot 44.4' x 128'. It has a gas furnace and an oil boiler, as well as a sprinkler system. Phil Zawacki was the owner in 1952, when the business was for sale for $56,000; and Phil Zander, of 1023 Westmoor N.W., in 1954. While movies were still being shown in 1952, by 1954 the marquee read only “Closed for repairs.”
