Grand River and the East Side Canal

Louis C. Towner - 1911

The photo provides an excellent view of the east side canal in relation to the Grand River, looking north. A sign for Purity Patent Flour is in the foreground, a verticle sign for Buckwheat & Graham is on the right, and the sign for the Wolverine Brass works is visible in the distance farther to the right. The tall white stack on the horizon to the right of the river is at the Coldbrook Pumping station. Railroad tracks run along the rim of the canal.
