The library walls are lined with shelves of books and folios, and at least fifteen portraits hang on the walls or from the barely visible railing that runs along the mezzanine or balcony on the right. Although only a small portion of the ceiling is visible it appears to be a beamed, coffered ceiling.

This photograph appears in the class album of the U.S. Military Academy class of 1899.
The library was built in 1841. Because the Academy was accepting more cadets, the library was expanded in the early 1860s.
In 1962 the building was torn down and the present library, built on the same site, was dedicated in 1964.
