Monroe Ave. at Division Ave., 1896

1896

This view looks west down Monroe Ave., which has been paved with bricks, toward the Pantlind Hotel. Just right of center the arc style street light hanging over the intersection can be clearly seen, and there are tall slim iron light poles on the corners that also support arc lights. There are three trolley cars on Monroe, and car 232 carries a sign on the front that reads, "Take This Car to the Michigan State Fair Grounds." Many sign adorn the buildings and several advertise dentists and doctors. Two men in the foreground ride bicycles, and various carts can be seen, but the horses are not visible.
