Pilot Project

The Grand Rapids Historical Commission Online Archive, Grand Rapids History, will be one of continuing evolvement and growth—always a work in progress—eventually including every family, organization, and institution of the city interested in participating.

As a pilot project we have worked with Lon Van Bronkhorst of the GR Public Schools, City High School teacher, Peter Van Enk, and three of his history classes. As an assignment, the students researched at least one of their photos and wrote about it. On Feb. 13, 2007 we visited the school to scan and photograph pictures and documents from students’ families. Their materials have contributed significantly to our initial collection of images for the Online Archive.
