Centennial Arch on Monroe Avenue

1876

This view looks west toward Sweet's Hotel behind the Centennial Arch. A banner stretched across the street displays a large sign for Brewer & Palmer Clothing who were located at 33 Monroe. A sign for "Dr. Hoskins Office" is at the far right, beneath his sign the awning displays "Drugs," and just under the large pocket-watch sign is Preusser Jewelers. From the length of the shadows it appears to be early morning, but a few horse-drawn wagons and carriages are seen along the sides of Monroe Ave.
