Grand Rapids Police, Horse Wagon

1892

The police wagon, drawn by two horses, leaves the Ottawa Ave. entrance of the Police Stateion with two officers on board. The driver sits on the front bench seat while his partner rides at the back. Both wear the high rounded helmets typical of the period. Police Patrol, carved in stone over the entrance, identifies the entrance, and several men are observing the photographer from the window above. The area between the sidewalk and the unpaved road appears to be paved with cobblestones or small rounds of timber in a similar pattern. The tower in the back on the left is not identified, but possibly a church.
