Image from a publication by the Kent Furniture Company, Grand Rapids, 1891. Also known as the Western Michigan University, Business Institute and Normal School, the building was described in 1891 Muskegon Chronicle advertisements for the school, as the "Most elaborate college building in North America," which might be considered somewhat of an overstatement. By 1893 the school was in financial trouble, and unpaid instructors were leaving.
