Lafayette Looking Toward Newberry St.

This view looks west toward Lafayette NE and the Grand Trunk RR tracks near the center of the photo. It continues up Newberry St., which has been washed out by the flood from the burst reservoir at the top of the hill. People stand along Lafayette and the railroad tracks looking at the damage. In the lower right a few people with unbrellas observe the crowds.

Notes

The reservoir burst on July 2, 1900 and 6,000,000 gallons of water created a flood thirty feet wide and ten feet deep. It demolish homes, tore up Newberry St., as well as the railraod tracks at the bottom of the hill.
