Looking West from the School Tower

Schuyler C. Baldwin - 1870s

The view from the tower on the High School, which stood at the corner of Ransom and Lyon, looks almost directly west down a residential Lyon St. hill and across the Grand River to the West Side. Several homes have fences around their property. Cupolas like the one seen on the house in the center provided an excellent view of the Grand River Valley and the city. Many factories adjacent to the river would make use of water power.
