Summit Street House

Schuyler C. Baldwin - 1879

The view looks east from Summit St., now part of Grandville Ave. The Summit Street House, just left of center, was a boarding house for a short time. To the left, at 20 Summit, is a grocery store operated by Andrew Whalen. A boardwalk runs along the edge of the unpaved street. At the horizon, just behind the tall steeple of Park Congregational Church, is the District No. 1 High School (Central High School). The steeple on the far right is that of the Westminster Presbyterian Chapel.
