Capt. John Williams Gunnison

Gunnison is shown in the 1840s Topographical Engineer uniform with his later rank of captain added to the epaulettes. Since the uniform is pre 1851 and Gunnison became a captain in 1853, this seems to indicate a painting perhaps at a much later date but without knowledge of the uniform change.
