La Grande Vitesse, Biemont Foundry

J. Germain, Tours, France - 1969

The pieces of the sculpture are fitted together outside the Biemont Foundry in Tours, France where the pieces for Alexander Calder's La Grande Vitesse were cast. The process ensured that everything would fit properly during its final construction in Grand Rapids. After the pre-construction process in Tours, the sculpture was disassembled for shipping. The wall of the foundry can be seen behind the sculpture, as well as a ladder behind the sculpture and tools on the ground. At the far left are some workmen next to equipment used to raise the pieces to their proper location.
