The wrought iron bridge, built in 1884, replace the preceding lattice covered bridge. It looks across the river toward the east bank, and the West Side Canal is in the foreground. Many factories line the banks of the Grand River.

Title by cataloger.
The bridge was 650 ft. long, 38 ft. wide, and stood on stone piers. The roadway was plank as were the foot-walks on each side. The bridge was formally opened July 26, 1884 with a great demonstration in the evening including speeches, music, and a salute of thirty-eight guns fired from the middle of the bridge.
