View from Belknap Park

1908

This view looks west toward the Grand River in the distance. A man sits in the Reo automobile, named for R.E. Olds who would later produce the Oldsmobile, which appears to be a 1907-08 model. The street below is Coldbrook, the long building at the right is a freight house, and the roof of the Detroit, Grand Haven and Milwaukee Railroad depot is just visible behind it. The building at the end of the freight house is the Parnell House, located on the east side of Plainfield near Leonard, that was run as a tavern and rooming house.

Notes

Title by cataloger. It's possible that the driver of the car is William D. Vandecar who opened the Reo dealership in 1904 and operated it for at least twenty years.
