G.E. Ellis 4% Bank
1922, ca
The Italianate style Flatiron Building, housing the Ellis 4% Bank at the NW corner of Monroe and Ottawa, still stands in the city. At the far right, on Ottawa Ave., is the Young & Chaffee Furniture Store. A policeman directs traffic at the intersection where street railway tracks are visible. A horsedrawn, enclosed wagon with Otte Bros, owners of American Laundry, stands on Monroe. Cars of the time period are on Monroe and Ottawa. Signs over the corner doorway to the bank advertise the dentists, Drs. Stebbins & Jarvis. Near the left side of the photo a clock can be seen on the second story of a building.
