Beltline Drive-in
In 1948, Jack Loeks jumped into the booming post-war drive-in theater business when he bought land on 28th Street, S.W., in Wyoming Township to build the Beltline Drive-In. The theater's towering neon images of Bugs Bunny and Goofy waving moviegoers toward the 90-foot-tall screen were landmarks in Wyoming. The theater was razed in 1988 to make way for the expansion of Studio 28. No home was found for the cartoon characters, so they were destroyed. During the summer months, the old drive-in area is home to the giant weekend flea market.
