This view looks a little northeast across the Grand River and the north end of Island #3 toward the Plaza Towers located at the corner of W. Fulton and Monroe. The Hwy 131 bridge crossing the river is seen in the background, and the arches of the Fulton St. bridge are visible in the small area between the swollen river and the highway bridge.

Flood stage on the Grand River is considered to be 18 ft. In April of 2013 the river peaked at 21.85 ft., breaking the prior record of 19.64 ft. of 1985. 

The patent for Island No. 3 was registered in 1841 by Richard Godfroy. Louis Campau applied for the rights to Islands #1 and #2 in the same year.
