The awning is printed with J. C. Herkner Jewelry Co., 57 Monroe, and the oval beveled glass in the door also has 57 and Herkner's printed on it. A border around the windows carries 57 on either side of Herkners, and near the door it read Opticians on the left. Just above sidewalk level raised letters on the left of the photo advertise Diamonds-Watches, on the right Silver-Cut Glass, and between the lettering and the sidewalk a small portion of marble.
